Assam is a north-eastern state of India, located directly south of the Himalayas. The landscape presented here focuses on the Brahmaputra River and the region around the sharp bend in the river at the border between India and Bangladesh. As a consequence of the monsoon climate, heavy rainfall is common between March and September and the temperature is generally mild. The monsoon rains are the cause of the annual floods in the region, especially in the flat terrain along the Brahmaputra River, which changes its course according to the season.
